Bailey's Portfolio
E-Portfolio
Hello, my name is Bailey Lopez. I am a college student at IUPU pursuing a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Currently, I work as a CNA at a nursing home to gain more experience in the field. I have created this e-portfolio to showcase my skills, experiences, and achievements.
ABOUT ME
Hello my name is Bailey Lopez and I currently attend IUPUI for pre nursing as a freshman. I am from California and moved to Indiana in July of 2022 to live with my dad. I lived full time with my mom in CA but the situation wasn't suitable long term for me to continue to live there. I was getting in trouble at school, didn't care abut graduating, bad temperament, and was struggling with a lot of mental health issues. Me and my dad packed my car and drove all the way to Indiana with my cat. It as one of the longest boring but cool drives I've ever been on we stopped at many different places like Mount Rushmore (its so small in person). So I settled in Indiana started going to school but didn't really have any motivation to try my best at school due to me still adjusting to the biggest change I have ever experienced everything was new to me, new friends, new school, new household, and living with different a parent. It was really hard to adjust in the beginning. But eventually I got into a routine got a job and started making friends. I started working at a hospital in the kitchen delivering food and fell in love with the hospital. There is so many different things and it's endless learning in there. I loved going to work and talking to all the nurses and all of the patients. I originally applied to IUPUI for psychology but once I started working at the hospital my mind was blown and I wanted to do nursing. I changed my major and decided I wanted to get my CNA to make me a better nurse in the future. I started putting in all of my effort into school and Graduated high school in May of 2023 and then got my CNA certification July of 2023. I then go my first job as a CNA in a memory care unit and I love it so much. It's truly something that makes me happy. I am currently trying to gain 1000 hours as a CNA to get my QMA so I can pass medication and also expand my knowledge in patient care. I can't wait to become a nurse one day!!
MY SKILLS & EXPERTISE
Some of my skills are I'm a people person, I love making friends and getting to interact with others, I'm great at problem solving, I work great in groups or independently, and I'm always open to learning new things. Some of my expertise in healthcare include previously working in a hospital delivering food and now currently working as a CNA in a memory care facility.
Major and Career Goals
I am currently attending IUPUI for pre-nursing and expecting to graduate in 2027. I'm so excited to become a nurse eventually. I currently work as a CNA and trying to earn my 1000 hours so I can become a QMA(qualified medication aid). I got my CNA right after I graduated so it will make me a better nurse in the future. I'm so glad I made that decision because it's truly something I love. My job is so fun, I love going in for my shifts
I love patient care so much and have a huge passion for it. I love to help others and I love that I can improve someones quality of life. Once I get my RN I want to work in a hospital for a year or two then do travel nursing so I can see the country. I would like to get into pediatrics, but I'm willing and open to learn all new and different things in the nursing world.

Semester Experience
This semester was a mix of emotions but it was definitely a great learning experience. I applied to IUPUI having know I idea what I wanted to do I originally applied for phycology because its seemed like I would be into it. I started woking in a hospital figuring out I really like the medial field I applied to change my major to nursing and got it accepted. I was so excited to start school I decided during the summer was able to get my CNA. School started in August I went to my orientation a couple months before I was super nervous but exited of everything being so knew to me. Once Bridge weeks started I was scared the first day but I made friends with the table group I sat with and we started to do all of the activities together wich made the nerves lighten. I started hanging out with these girls all the time during the week at school because we have a lot of the same classes. It's made going to school and studying way more fun, we always go and get food together. Another thing that is significant experience is when I first started and had a whole mental break down ready to drop out because I thought I had no idea what I was doing, but my family reassured me it was ok and I just need a routine I was able to make one and it saved my life I'm so orangized now.

This year I have learned my strengths and weakness pretty well. With such a big change from going to high school to college is crazy. I have learned that im not very good with big changes and need to take a moment to figure things out. I wasn't able to handle the work load at first and had to make the decision that I needed to drop some classes to get organized. I needed to have a schedule so I could juggle school and work. I was able to problem solve wich is one of my strengths and I bought a planner so I can see everything and made a weekly routine so I can just look and know what's happening. It saved my life I made times in my days where I had some time for studying each subject.

One lesson that I have learned this seamster is it's okay not to be doing what everyone else is doing. When I was debating on dropping my class I was so fixated on how other people were taking all of the same classes at the same time and were making it work but I couldn't, I felt so dumb. But I came to the realization that I can only do my best and if I have to drop a class or two to be able to sussed in all of them its okay everyone learnss at there own pace and eventually I will met my end goal.
